UPPSC stands for Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. UPPSC is the state agency authorized to conduct the Civil Services Examination for entry-level appointments in various civil services of Uttar Pradesh.

UPPSC conducts the state service exam to recruit candidates for Group A and Group B services. The Charter of the Agency is provided by the Constitution of India. Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the Constitution, titled Services under the Union and the States, provide for a Public Service Commission for the Union and each State.

UPPSC PCS Exam details are mentioned below:

  • On April 1, 1937, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) came into existence with its headquarters at Prayagraj (then Allahabad).
  • The recent change in the UP PCS exam pattern has made it similar to the UPSC exam pattern. Now, like in the IAS exam, there are 4 GS papers and there is only one optional subject option in PCS Mains.
  • Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducts the Provincial Civil Services Examination (PCS Exam) for recruitment to state-level services. Selected PCS officers can be promoted to IAS officers later in their careers.
  • The current UPPSC Chairman (2022), is Dr. Manoj Soni. His term will end on June 27, 2023. Prior to this, Shri Sanjay Shrinet, a 1993 batch IAS officer, was the Chairman of UPPSC. Apart from the UPPSC chairman, there are five other members.

  3. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (Procedure and Conduct of Business) Rules 2011.

UP PCS Exam is conducted in three stages:

  • Prelims – 2 papers – multiple-choice questions (MCQ)
  • Mains – 8 paper – essay/descriptive type
  • Personality Test

  • Candidates should possess Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification from any recognized university

PCS exam eligibility also includes physical measurement/fitness for certain posts. To be considered eligible, candidates have to undergo a medical test followed by an interview.

UPPSC Age Limit

PCS Exam age limit (as on 1st July of the exam year) is:

  • Minimum age – 21 years
  • Maximum age – 40 years

To claim the benefit of reservation for age relaxation, candidates should have:

  • Domicile of UP
  • Category A Certificate from Competent Authority
  • In case of female candidates, the caste/ domicile certificate issued by the father will be considered valid.
  • Male candidates with more than one wife (living) are not eligible. (Unless the governor of the state gives exemption.)
  • Female candidates who are already married to a person having a wife (living) are not eligible. (Unless the governor of the state gives exemption.)
  • Pregnant (12 weeks or more) female candidates will be provisionally disqualified.
  • Candidates claiming age relaxation/reservation in more than one category for UP PCS exam will be entitled to only one concession, whichever is more beneficial.
