Keeping this problem in mind, to solve it, the West Bengal government has started a scholarship for minor children, Whose name is Swami Vivekananda Scholarship.

Under this scholarship scheme, students from minority communities will be given financial assistance for further studies. The Government of West Bengal has started the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship keeping in mind the economically weak students. So that the poor students of the state are not deprived of education and can improve the condition of their homes by being educated. Through this scholarship, financial assistance will be given to the meritorious students of the state, so that they can continue their studies ahead and fulfill their dreams.

Under this scholarship, financial assistance will be provided to students in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Along with this, meritorious students of classes 9th to 12th can also apply for the scholarship.

The objective of the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship

The main objective of the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship is to give good opportunities to the students of the state in the field of education. Most of the students in our country are forced to leave their studies midway due to economic weakness, due to which children are forced to work at an early age.

The objective of this scheme is to eliminate all these social problems and increase the literacy rate in the state by providing funds to deserving students.

The amount of award under the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Scheme mainly depends on the course or level of study that is currently being pursued. Generally, this scholarship amount can vary from INR 1,000 per month to INR 5,000 per month.

What are the Eligibility Criteria?

  • The student must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
  • The student must be pursuing his/her education in institutions located in West Bengal.
  • It will be necessary to study any one of the listed courses.
  • The family income from all sources should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh.

Specific Eligibility

Apart from the eligibility given above, there are also some course-specific eligibility criteria that need to be followed. Know the complete information about them in the table given below-:

  • Students must be in receipt of a valid sanctioned K-2 ID
  • Students must be pursuing a PG course in Arts, Science, and Commerce
  • Students must have passed graduation
45% in aggregate
For Undergraduate Courses Candidates must have qualified for a higher secondary examination or equivalent. 75% in aggregate (Best of five)
For Postgraduate courses Honors subjects at graduation level (general education) 53%
Honors in Engineering subjects at the graduation level 55%
For M.Phil./ Non-NET/NET-LS Research Fellow The students enrolled for a Ph.D. or M.Phil. program at a state-aided institution can apply. Not Applicable

What are the Important Documents?

The applicant must have these documents:-

  • Aadhaar card/Ration card/Voter ID card
  • Institute verification form (in the prescribed format) duly authenticated by the HOI (Head of Institution)
  • Recent photographs
  • Admit card of Madhyamik or equivalent examination
  • Mark sheet of the last examination passed
  • Income certificate (in the format specified)
  • Income affidavit (in the specified format)
  • The first page of their bank passbook clearly mentions their account number and IFSC details

Note-: The students can obtain the institute verification form online from the portal after the submission of the online application. Get it authenticated by the HOI and finally upload it to the portal.
